The Walking Dead hasn’t officially been renewed for five more seasons, but the creator thinks the prediction is not far-fetched.

Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has made many comments regarding how long his creation could last. In the case of the TV series, Kirkman now believes it’s got at least five more seasons’ worth of material. In his most recent issue’s letter section, Kirkman says “It took us 6 seasons to get to 100. It won’t take us 6 years to get to 200 and that will take us to season…TWELVE. And we’ll still be ahead of the show at that point.”

AMC executives have publicly wished it could last forever, but that is simply not how the business works. Ratings for this most recent season have been in decline, though not enough to topple TWD’s position as #1 Cable Drama. Fear The Walking Dead receives a pittance of those numbers and it’s still enough to keep it on the air. It’s not far-fetched to envision TWD entering double-digit seasons, but the real question is if it can continue to hold audience interest without a definitive end goal to its story.

If Bones of all things can stay on for this long, surely The Walking Dead can crawl to a Season Twelve. But would it remain as fresh?
