There are many ways to get more followers on Twitter, but these top 10 are sure to help you grow your followers quickly.
Tip 1 - Have an interesting username
Make sure your username is memorable. Many people use their real name or initials for their username. Some people choose words that resonate with them, but it's important to think about whether or not people can easily relate when you tell them your username. For example, if you are at a networking event and introducing yourself as @MaverickCharlie, it might be hard for others to remember. On other hand, if you say your twitter handle is @WellnessMaverick it will make it easier for others to remember who you are and why they should follow you. You may even consider adding an extra word in front of Maverick, like CreativeMaverick or HealthMaverick so that others have an idea of what type of information you will share on twitter.
Tip 2 - Add a profile photo
Adding a photo of yourself will help people connect with you, trust you, and make a more personal connection. Having a profile picture can encourage others to engage with your content as well. Whether it’s adding your smiling face in front of a cute puppy or giving sneak peeks behind-the-scenes at what you’re up to, your followers will appreciate getting to know you better. However, keep in mind that we can only see 3 images unless they are linked from another website so try not to go over three images. You also want something that is personal but professional.
Tip 3 - Write helpful descriptions in your bio
Whether you're looking for more followers or trying to convince someone you're worthy of a follow, one thing always holds true: People are far more likely to follow you if they know exactly what they'll get out of doing so. Be clear about your intent and relevant background; describe why people would want to follow you and what value your content will provide. When using keywords in your bio, remember that it's always better to be too specific than vague when describing your expertise.
Tip 4 - Join relevant Twitter lists
There is more than one way to use lists. They are a great way to find new potential followers who have common interests. Joining relevant lists will get you noticed, and that’s half of growing your follower count. It makes sense – people only want to follow accounts they’re interested in, so it’s important that your tweets appeal to a wider audience than just those who already follow you. Just remember that someone else started at zero, just like you did, and took actions until their account grew into something worth following. The rest is up to you!
Tip 5 - Share other's content as well as yours
After you publish a post or after an important event that's worthy of tweeting about, don't forget to share others' content as well. This is one of the best ways to get more followers because it encourages your readers and followers (as well as their readers and followers) to continue following you. They'll be more likely to follow your tweets if they see relevant and interesting content from other sources being shared. Make sure not only include links, but also give a few words of thought around them so people know why you think they should click through and read further.
Tip 6 - Use hashtags often
Posting a tweet that includes at least one trending hashtag can dramatically increase your post's reach. In fact, using hashtags can boost your exposure by 14%. Make sure you don't overdo it, though, as excessive use of hashtags could cause your tweets to be flagged as spam. So use a few and spread them out throughout your tweet for best results. A good rule of thumb is one or two hashtags per post. Just make sure you're using relevant ones that people will search for! For example:
Tip 7 - Join tweet chats regularly
For many people, it can be a challenge to grow their audience and develop relationships with other influential users. To help you connect with new people, join tweet chats regularly. To get you started, here are just a few: #blogchat is at 11 am EST (8 am PST) every Monday; #editchat happens from 8–9 pm EST every Tuesday; and #mentorshipchat is held every Thursday from 1–2 pm EST. If you're able to join these for an hour or two each week, do so! It can make a big difference in your social media strategy.
Tip 8 - Engage with others using @mentions, replies and favorites
Hashtags are a great way to connect with others when you want to start a conversation or add your voice to an ongoing one. You can also reply and @mention (by putting their handle in front of their username) other users so they get a notification and know you're talking about them. And, of course, retweeting content from others that's relevant or valuable is an easy way for you to build connections. Take advantage of these features!
Tip 9 - Read someone else's feed every day
By subscribing to one or two people, you will stay up-to-date with what's happening in your field and start learning more about how other people approach their businesses. This will increase your knowledge and inspire you. Tip 6 - Use hashtags: If you have a question, tweet it using a hashtag so that others can easily find it by searching for that hashtag. People are more likely to retweet and respond if they know there is an audience that is interested in what they have to say.
Tip 10 - Don't abuse auto-follow tools or follow/unfollow bots
The whole point of getting more followers is to grow your own list of contacts. You can gain some serious traction and build your influence by following influential people in your industry, but beware of shady apps that offer auto-follow. These may seem like an easy way to add followers, but they’re a waste of time if you don’t have anything interesting or valuable to say. Also, if you do use these tools, be aware that using too many might flag your account as spam and you'll lose followers as a result!
