Every movie fan has seen some movie/series scenes that either due to its intensity or excitement, can be considered as special ones.
The goal with this type of posts is for us to share those scenes that we thought were really something else, and provide a little bit of background so everyone can understand what is happening in the scene, and why it is special.
Today’s scene is from the movie The Talented Mr. Ripley.
In late 1950s New York, Tom Ripley, a young underachiever, is sent to Italy to retrieve Dickie Greenleaf, a rich and spoiled millionaire playboy. But when the errand fails, Ripley takes extreme measures. Source
SPOILERS
Context: Matt Damon’s character (Tom Ripley) killed his rich friend Dickie Greenleaf and is now hiding this fact from everyone else, telling them that Dickie is away having dinner, or that he decided to do a little trip by his own, the fact is Tom is just planning to buy some time, and while doing so, he is also living his life as if he was the rich friend he just killed.
What I love about this scene is how Philip Seymour Hoffman’s character (Freddie) kind of smells something is off, and he slowly manages to piss off Tom in very subtle ways, the scene ends very tragically due to the appearance of a very inconvenient person that makes it impossible for Tom to continue deceiving Freddie.
