1/29/2018 The hardest day of our lives.

Since the last update by my wife. I would like to give you all a proper time line. Our 2 year old son has just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The doctors believe he's been fighting this disease all his life. He has done quite well up until the last few weeks. We didn't see the symptoms as being signs diabetes. Such as frequent and more urine. His eating habits are based on his desire, typically he did very well with that. He never really ate a lot of candy and that was his choice. The only toddler I have ever met that would turn it down. He is and has always been in the 99 percentile for his age. A very active, happy, loving, and strong baby. What we did notice: The week prior leading up to this tragic event is; restlessness(not sleeping as well), drinking more than usual, heavy bedwetting, weird eating habits, such as eating the peel of an orange. Last Saturday was the first real sign something was wrong. At Kamis Cheerleading camp watching the BHS high school basketball game. Our baby was restless and annoyed and in pain, took a nap on the bleacher. Sunday wasn't much better, watching him moan and act larthargic however instead of his bottle he wanted juice. (Gladly obliged organic no added sugar apple juice) and he ate 2 apples. Our thoughts were that he was constipated. Monday was much worse, larthargic, not taking food or water. We tried eggs apple rice orange etc. We went to the hospital looking for a walk in clinic, after dropping his brother and sister to school. We were in between medical coverage since recently moving out of state. (just a nightmare situation. ) After little improvement we went to the ER. They tested him for sugar levels. It was very high registering beyond the meters highest reading. My God help us, it was over 900 his blood was thick and like syrup with a deep black maroon hue. He would have died without medical assistance. He is getting better now but we were in PICU for 3 days s. The Iv has been so very hard to do. 4 more days and so very many things to learn, we were released from the Children's Hospital in Omaha. Thank you for saving our sons life.
