Gustaffson: ‘Nothing about that man surprises me anymore’
In 2013 Gustaffson gave Jones what was probably his hardest fight ever. Gustaffson's reach, size, and foot work enabled him to get the better of Jones at least for the first two rounds. Jones ultimately won that fight but by the decision. It was undoubtedly a close fight. If Jones wasn't popped for steroids he was most likely next in line for a title shot, especially considering Jimi Manuwa recently lost via a devastating knockout to Volkan "No Time" Oezdemir.
Gustaffson arguably had the most to gain from Jones coming back. Although the rivalry with DC got more coverage, the fact remains that Gustaffson got closer to beating Jones than DC did. A win over Jones would not only have avenged the loss, it would've likely cemented Gustaffson as one of the greatest P4P fighters in the world. Unfortunately Gustaffson has likely lost his opportunity to redeem the loss to Jones, unless he's up for a none drug tested bout in Japan's Rizin FC.
