The Abduction of Travis Walton, Fraud or Reality?

In 1993, the movie "Fire in the Sky" was released , which told the true story of an extraterrestrial abduction case. At first glance this is one of many cases, with the difference that the film is based on Travis Walton's own book "The Walton Experience" , the terrifying experience he lived by being abducted. Travis Walton claims that on November 5, 1975, he was abducted by an UFO. Their claims were endorsedby several witnesses causing great controversy. This controversy remains unresolved.

The Abduction of Travis

Travis Walton was a 19-year-old at the time of the incident. His best friend Mike Rogers, who was operating in a timber business, had hired him to help remove bushes and weeds near Turkey Springs, Arizona. This was Roger's biggest contract. In order not to fail his contractor, he and his team, including Walton, would work from dawn until dusk. On November 5, 1975 at 18:00 the team finished their work day and returned home in Rogers' vehicle. After driving a short period of time the group saw a bright light coming from behind a hill they were approaching. The group approached the strange light and discovered that the source was a saucer-shaped object floating in the sky. Roger stopped the vehicle and Walton ran to the object to be able to observe it closer. The group in the vehicle shouted at Walton to come back, but ignored them. Walton was almost under the object when it began to make a loud sound. From the object came a beam of blue light that enveloped Travis. He was lifted from the ground, floating in the air moments before being thrown more than 3 meters away. Walton crashed to the ground with a deafening noise. Rogers and the other members of the team panicked and fled the scene in a hurry.

 The Rogers Team

Rogers's team headed out of the area of the strange object thinking that it was after them. After a while they calmed down and stopped the vehicle. Then the team began to discuss what they should do about the situation. They finally decided to go back and find Walton. When they returned to the scene, both the UFO and Walton were gone. The team returned to the village, after a half hour  they called the police. Sheriff's deputy Chuck Ellison responded to the call. The men told him what had happened. The men were very distressed and some of them were crying. Ellison telephoned his superior Marlin Gillespie, who came on the scene and heard the same story. Gillespie demanded that all of them return to the place where the mysterious object appeared and look for Travis. On November 6, helicopters, volunteers and police agents joined the search party for Travis Walton.

 The appearance of Travis

On Monday, November 10, all members of Rogers' team were forced to examine themselves on the polygraph. They were asked about the UFO and whether they had killed Walton or whether they knew where he was. The whole team passed the polygraph test, with the exception that one of them refused to take the test. Although later admitted that it was due to his criminal past. This led Sheriff Gillespie to claim that the UFO story had actually taken place.

That same day, at midnight, Grant Neff, who was married to Walton's sister, received a phone call:"I'm Travis. I'm in a phone booth at the Heber gas station, and I need help. Come for me. "Neff had been getting teasing phone calls about Travis's disappearance and thought of what if it was about another call. But everything changed when he heard the shuddering voice saying:"Grant, it's me ... I'm hurt and I need help. Come for me !!! "Neff and Travis' brother arrived at the gas station, finding Travis collapsed on the floor of the phone booth in the same clothes he had on the day he disappeared. Travis looked confused and terrified and muttered the words "beings with horrible eyes . " Travis had the impression that it had only been a few hours, but when he found out that he had been gone for almost a week he sank deeper into a state of disruption. After Travis calmed down, he explained a story to his family that has told countless researchers, skeptics, and a multitude of conventions.

The Extraterrestrial Experience

Travis said he remembered the beam of light from the strange ship radiating through his body. He then fainted, to wake up sitting in a reclining chair with a bright light over his head. Travis says he was not scared at first, since he was supposed to be in a hospital room. After recovering he realized that he was not alone in that room. Around him were some humanoid creatures in very strange orange suits. He mentioned how his whole body hurt and he had trouble breathing, while he was still really terrified to see those strange beings. He got up and demanded the creatures to go away. He took a cylindrical tube thinking it was glass in an attempt to break it to make an improvised knife, but it was a strange material that did not break. Travis pushed one of the creatures away from the room.

He left the room in a corridor that led to another strange room, sat in a chair and could see that stars and galaxies were projected on the ceiling. Travis compared this projection as if it were a planetarium. He then began to manipulate a joystick that was in the left arm of the chair, when he did it little by little the stars whirled around him. He decided to get up from the chair and back down the hall to investigate a rectangular stain on the wall that looked like a door. Suddenly, Travis heard a noise behind him. He turned and was astonished to see a human being . He said that there was something strange about that "man". He wore a blue suit and a strange glass helmet, his eyes were abnormally large in gold, but Travis relied on him and began to ask him some questions, but he was ignored. The man took Travis to another room containing three other humans. Travis was seated at a table among the other human beings who, according to one of them, put a mask of oxygen on his face, immediately losing consciousness. Just remember that when he woke up he was already in the phone booth.

Reality or Fiction?

Duane, Travis's brother, decided not to tell that his brother Travis had appeared for fear of causing a great media frenzy. Duane also recalled that an ufologist named William H. Spaulding, promised that when Travis returned he would conduct a medical examination confidentially. Spaulding, however, was not really a doctor, just a hypnotherapist. Duane, upon hearing of the alleged doctor's deception, had a strong dispute with Spaulding. In this way he became one of many ufologists trying to discredit Travis Walton. In addition, Duane's decision not to immediately inform the authorities of Travis's return led many experts to speculate that he and Travis used that time to have evidence that could prove Travis's abduction to be real. If the kidnapping really was a hoax then everyone was cheated, both the work team and the Travis family. The only thing that seems improbable is that the team of Rogers could have deceived the polygraph. Journalist Phillip J. Klassis the main driver in discrediting this kidnapping. He claims that Travis and Rogers' team had a financial interest in simulating the abduction. According to Klass, Travis wrote a book and made a lot of money with the abduction. Travis Walton remained in Snowflake after the incident in which he became an eventual foreman of a local sawmill. Travis regularly makes appearances at UFO conventions and conducts interviews for documentaries.
