UGC-NET stands for University Grant Commission- National Entrance Test. The biennial examination is conducted in June (3rd week) and December (3rd week) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education on behalf of UGC.

The UGC-NET exam is essential for pursuing higher order research in various areas of Science and Technology in University Departments / Institutes of National Importance / National Laboratories and CSIR Institutes. Those who qualify the UGC-NET exam are awarded JRF or lectureship on qualifying the NET exam.

Interested candidates can apply online for UGC NET Exam and after that candidates go to their allotted UGC NET Exam Center for National Eligibility Test. It is a computer based exam consisting of two papers Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 and Paper 2 have multiple choice questions.

Applicants get only 1 hour for paper 1 whereas for paper 2 they get 2 hours. To qualify in Paper 1 applicants need to score a minimum of 100 marks while for Paper 2 they all have to score a minimum of 200 marks.

National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the UGC NET exam in various 598 cities of the country. This exam was conducted in two shifts as morning and evening. The morning shift starts at 9:30 am and ends at 1:00 pm. While the evening shift starts at 2:30 pm and ends at 6:00 pm.

Paper 1 questions are divided into 10 sections. For each correct answer, applicants get two marks. No negative marking is applicable in UGC NET exam.
