UjoMusic Alpha Launch is Coming Up - I Submitted an Application to Get In

in ujo •  7 years ago

UjoMusic is a music distribution service built on ethereum that has been making waves since 2015. Although they have not released a final product yet, they are making some exciting progress.

With 2018 just around the corner at this point, we might see a third running year without a proper release from Ujo. That would be a bit awkward. Luckily they have announced the immanent release of the new alpha version of their service…

If the old UjoMusic projects were any indication, this service is going to make it easy to accept ETH as a currency while selling your music. I love the idea of being able to sell directly in cryptocurrency, ideally a variety of them… at least having ETH is a solid start.

Artist Tokens

I saw some posts on Twitter a few weeks ago suggesting that UjoMusic would also enable artists to issue tokens that people can use to access special content. These might be something like an artist-specific cryptocurrency.

There is more research I need to do about these kinds of cryptocurrency services for artists… I’ve seen others too. Maybe Musicoin or Muse use this kind of model? I’m not sure yet.

Artist tokens are a futuristic idea that might become real even if they seem a little crazy right now to the non-initiated. USA-centered artists might need to be careful, there could be weird legal regulations one day relating to private entities who issue their own currencies. Not a lot of bands have accountants, so be careful there.

Why I Want to Participate

It’s always good to participate in a new service that might become popular. For one thing, I think I really could provide valuable feedback based on my knowledge of blockchain and my experience with other cryptocurrency services like steemit.

For another thing, we all know how good it is to get in early for a social platform. If there’s any social features built into this platform, like how Bandcamp handles listener accounts, I want to be there on day one. People who landed on steem day one were at a huge advantage, so I would love to be there first on another cryptocurrency platform.

Lastly it’s just interesting to be a part of something new. I like the future. Exploring new ideas, especially in a rapidly changing and technology driven world, is one of the joys of life. Why not try to participate?

You Can Apply Too

You can sign up for the UjoMusic newsletter if you want to receive updates about this service as it rolls out. You might even get invited to apply for the alpha version of Ujo!

If they ask who referred you (IDK if they will), tell them I did!

We’ll see what happens with this - if I get into the Ujo Alpha, I will blog about it to whatever extent is allowed.

Hi @heymattsokol I'm also UjoMusic newsletter thanks for sharing man :)

you are welcome. fingers crossed on getting into this alpha lol

Great stuff cooking here! Thx for letting us know :-). As a music producer licensing my music (for personal use, but also for media use), I am really excited about this idea and subbed to their newsletter.
Since I discovered Steemit last month, I actually had the idea to do this with Steem, in a manual way, and gave a shot at it with a post, unfortunately unsuccessful:

Do you create broadcast level music content too? If so, let's talk about what we could do with Steem...

Is this similar to Musicoin, where you get paid for plays, tipped. Or is it purely a place to sell your tracks for ETH?

I’ll go sign up regardless, I’m trying to research viable outlets for content producers for a thing I’m doing.

EDIT:

Oh I get it, it basically acts as a marketplace where you can publish and receive payment in ETH for people buying your work. But no pay per streams from what I can see.
