The proper way to pronounce Ukrainian places.

I suck at pronunciations, but I think this is just about not being an asshole about it. Sort of like misgendering or deadnaming.

To that point, try to say Kyiv instead of Kiev. Kyiv is the preferred Ukrainian English transliteration, Kiev is the Russian transliteration. Kyiv has been the official preference since 1995, it isn't a recent development, we just are slow to change. And given events since 2014 with Russia it doesn't take much effort to relearn a transliteration.

And if you want to go the extra mile, Odesa not Odessa, Kharkiv instead of Kharkov, Lviv instead of Lvov, Mykolaiv instead of Nikolaev, and Rivne instead of Rovno.

This is just for transliteration purposes so 'Keeve' is fine since that is how the transliteration would be pronounced in English. The Ukrainian pronunciation is close enough to that but not really natural to English. Likewise Lviv- Laveeve, the Ukrainian pronunciation for Lviv varies by dialect.
