Will Biden end up being the biggest follower of the World Police doctrine?

Like many of you, I find the situation in Ukraine as compelling as it is heartbreaking. But we don't belong there anymore than we do in Yemen, Tigray, Hong Kong, Kurdistan, Afghanistan, or anywhere else ongoing wars inflict tragic suffering and loss.

That's what I believe an a non-interventionist who thinks we should limit our "benevolent" global footprint and reserve our military for only situations where our direct national interests are at stake.

Perhaps others believe American interventionism and regime-change wars result in net positive good.

But know this, if President Biden ends up leading us to war with Russia on Ukraine's behalf, it won't be merely another interventionist, regime-change war. It'll be the first war in American history to fit the following criteria:

  1. Sending American troops (in mass) into direct conflict with a major world power.

  2. Doing so without direct provocation or the pretext of direct provocation.

  3. Openly declaring that we're fighting "for someone else" or "for the greater good.

To summarize, the United States has never fought another major world power on someone else's behalf without (real or fabricated) provocation. We have yet to go THAT far down the 'World Police' rabbit hole.

So, if President Biden deploys the US military, here, he'll be the greatest follower of the 'World Police' doctrine we've ever elected.
