Let Them Sleep

in ulog-mama •  5 years ago

It is 9:33 am on a beautiful Chula Vista Sunday Morning.

It is warm.

It is sunny.

The day is perfect.

And my kids are sleeping.

I am letting them.

My neighbors must be doing the same, because I cannot hear the other kids running towards the pool, or even hear the distant splashes of the commotion in the water.

Sometimes I feel as if we waste our day's away, sleeping and not doing much. But sometimes, I feel as if their little bodies need the extra nourishment that sleep provides, and I am happy to be quiet enough to let them do it.

I stay quiet when they are having sleep-athons such as these.

I keep the tv off.

I keep the washer and dryer off.

I won't even turn on the stove and start my cooking as smells can be just as wakeful as noise.

I move slowly and quietly and pray over them while I fill them with blessings.

Later today, perhaps even before this post is published. We will wake and shower and visit grandma. They will run around outside, eat lots of fresh fruit and probably accept some delicious Carne Asada Tacos from their grandpa.

They will feel the goodness of a good day.

And I will know that next week, they are well and rested for a full week of learning activities.

I feel happy and thankful to be able to provide this environment for them.
