The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the public of the potential of high ocean waves ranging from one to three meters, including in some coastal tourism areas in Bali.

"We urge people to consider these conditions before going to sea or doing activities around the coast," said BMKG Head of Region III Denpasar Taufik Gunawan in Denpasar, Sunday (08/26/2018).

According to him, the condition was caused by the mass of wet air concentrated on the surface layer up to 850 millibars or 1,500 meters and most of Bali entered the dry season with wind speeds ranging from eight to 35 km per hour from east-southeast.

BMKG details the wave heights of one to three meters which are classified as potentially dangerous in the southern part of the Bali Strait, the Badung Strait and the southern Lombok Strait.

Wave height of two to three meters which is also in the dangerous category has the potential to occur in the Indian Ocean south of Bali to NTB.

While for the beach that has the potential to occur wave height above two meters including southern Bali, namely in Ungasan, Pecatu, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua and Nusa Penida.

For this reason, BMKG reminded the public to pay attention to the high risks to shipping safety, including for fishermen, namely wind speeds of more than 15 knots and wave height above 1.25 meters.

Taufik said that the barges need to watch out for wind speeds of more than 16 knots and wave height above 1.5 meters.

As for ferry boats need to watch out for wind speeds of more than 21 knots and wave height above 2.5 meters and large size ships, such as cargo ships or cruise ships, need to watch out for wind speeds of more than 27 knots and wave height above four meters.
