Lessons From Children

This is just a peek into my thoughts... Phew!

There's so much to learn from children.

One of the things I look forward to each day is a smile from my niece. She'll turn 6 months in a few days' time and I see the blessings I get watching her grow.

I am like her nanny and so I get to see many things about her. Like how tenacious she is when she wants to reach for something. She's barely crawling, so she stretches and moves towards her goal, just to put it in her mouth. Or I notice how strong her grasp is and when she holds something you have to beg her to let it go.

Forget about the story about the spider which tried over and over when creating its web, you should see my niece. She tries to sit up, falls, tries again, falls, tries again, falls, cries, cries, cries and cries again, I come to her, sits her up, she smiles. Mission accomplished.

Yesterday I said something to her when she kept trying to reach my breasts, I said "it's not for you, it's for your cousins!", but she didn't listen.

She keeps displaying different characters. I mean, I scold her, she smiles. I complain that she's disturbing, she cries. I mimic her crying, she goes silent but does not look me in the eye. I force our eyes to meet, she kisses me.

I love her.

But one thing I wonder is why she cries because she wants to sleep. Why not just close your eyes and sleep? I ask her, and she cries harder. I try to rock her to sleep but she grabs my lips with her sharp nails, and I yelp into silence. When she finally sleeps, I feel like I have conquered the world.

There are many things to learn from children and the first is that parenting is no child's play.

I love this.

Hahaha what a beautiful story about your niece, you know there is something to know, babies manipulate adults to get what they want and you know, they always win.
