Ulog No. 47: "#FreshFlavours: Asian Beef Pan"

This is my version of @dragraff's Asian Beef Pan as part of his #FreshFlavours "Find the Missing Ingredient" contest. My guess for the secret ingredient was oyster sauce. So following his recipe and using that secret ingredient, I cooked my own verson of Asian Beef Pan. The recipe was easy to follow, but as usual, I had to make adjustments when I cooked it for the following reasons:

  • wanting to include other vegetables
  • adjusting the seasonings or sauces to add more flavour (I don't strictly measure the amount of sauce or spices - I add a little bit, then taste)
  • my husband's dietary requirements

So, I cooked it last night, and it only took me 15 minutes to prepare (which includes cutting up the ingredients) and 15 minutes to cook. I was in a hurry to cook the dish as I got home from work at around 5 PM, then put a load of washing in the washing machine, then proceeded to prepare for our dinner, then I had to be at the Recreational Centre for my Volleyball game by 5:50 PM. I started cooking at 5:15 PM then finished at 5:45 PM. I thought this dish is really quick to prepare and easy to make.

I recommend this dish to anyone who is always on the rush and busy and thinks that they haven't got time to cook so would rather buy takeaway food. You'd rather cook this Asian Beef Pan - first of all, it is nutritious, delicious, and full of flavour, and like I said, it's very easy (it can pass for a #JamieOliver's 30-minute meal).

ASIAN BEEF PAN

Ingredients:

600 g beef oyster blade steak, diced or cut into strips
1 bunch of mini-asparagus, cut into equal lengths
1 medium-sized red capsicum, cut into strips
2 cups of green beans, cut into equal lengths
2 cloves of garlic, peeled and minced
2 tbsps white wine vinegar
1/4 cup oyster sauce
2 tbsps soy sauce
1 tbsp cornstarch flour, dissolved in 1/4 cup water
1/2 cup water
sesame seeds, roasted (optional)
cracked pepper
a pinch of salt to taste
butter or margarine (or vegetable oil)

Method:

1. Heat butter in pan on high heat until melted.

2. Sauté garlic in butter until golden brown.

3. Add capsicum and mix with garlic and butter.

4. Add the diced beef and mix well for 2-3 minutes. Add cracked pepper and salt to taste.

5. Add the asparagus and the green beans. Mix well for 2-3 minutes.

6. Stir in the white vinegar, soy sauce, and oyster sauce. Add more cracked pepper and salt if needed. Mix well.

7. Add the cornstarch mixture.

8. Cover and simmer for 3-5 minutes in medium heat until sauce is thickened. Remove from heat.

9. Serve with rice and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Oyster Sauce to the rescue! I used to make all my stir fried dishes with the recipe except for the meat which I would change from dish to dish 😂😂 They are all using oyster sauce

You got that right!!! I use oyster sauce for any stir-fried dish, too. It's something that I always buy to store up in my pantry because I can make a meal using whatever I have in my fridge as long as I have oyster sauce.

Looks delicious.
