Hello guys, so today was an awesome day marking the start of my journey with World Vision For Education And Development(WVED) Cameroon. WVED is a non-profit making organization here in Bamenda, Cameroon concerned with promoting education and development amongst young people and are advocates for gender based issues.
Starting in the organization today, the director Madame Helvecia Nformbi welcomed me warmly and immediately introduced me to the rest and what the organization is all about.
The organization is currently running a program initiated by their supporters in Germany known as Global chat engagement. I was immediately brought into the picture and i was assigned to join three other mentors to bring up an activity plan and a project for the 9 months program that will run from September 2018 to July 2019.
It was cool to get a role in the current programme and this will help me to easily find my way in doing things in the organization. The kids also had to practice their talks and exposition of our country Cameroon, its history, geography and important facts about the territory. The kids also had to perform something that portrayed the culture of the Bamenda man, our dance, clothing, traditional meals etc. That's where the fun came in. The kids performes so brilliantly that i barely noticed it was juat a practice session.
They performed two main dances; the local Mbaya dance as it is called and the funny yet amazing bottle dance. I almost laughed my lungs out watching them perform these dances so well. These are dances that even adults hardly perform well but thwy did it quite well. This was just a practice session and the real video shooting will take place on Saturday 1st September to be shared with our foreign collaborators and supporters in Germany while they in turn will also send something portraying German culture; so in all, it will be a kind of exchange.
I have never really been the type of person that is too into culture and stuffs like this but watchingthese kids today gave me a reason to be proud of my culture and roots as a Bamenda man. It was a wonderful day and the images above can summarize it all. Notwithstanding, I know some people will like to get a taste of what the kids did, so below is a link to a short video i made about their dance. So you can access it from below and get a taste of the fun.

After the dance, the kids rehearsed their expositions again and were dismissed for the day but before that, they were reminded of the main "rendezvous" that comes up on saturday.
They left and i stayed back to discuss the main ideas we will need to execute the project that was assigned to us by the director. One of the mentors; Raissa sat down with me and together we discussed some few ideas and a few number of activities we could put into our work. She also drilled me on a few things and we called it the day and agreed to meet again tomorrow to add some details to our ideas. So i guess i will have a busy night ponsering on it for sure.
It was a beautiful first day at WVED, the kids, staffs and everything was great. This is a new journey for me and i am fired up for it and one with a lot of fun involved.
