It was a wonderful day at work, children sure have a degree of inquisitiveness that every teacher must learn to deal with.
There she stands, as bold as a lioness;........ 'Delight' is her name. She is very sharp and smart.
It was an agricultural science lesson and our topic was very unusual; "FARMER'S FRIEND". I told them we are going to talk about farmer's friend. The pupils started jumping and even telling me names of their own friends.
And I said, we all have friends, farmers have friends too, but today, we will talk about just one of the many friends farmers have. Everyone was quiet, waiting to hear who this friend would be. Then I said "this friend of the farmer is called "Mr. EARTH WORM". They were all amazed but Delight was disappointed.
Hnmm! She asked "how can earth worm be a friend to the farmer when it looks like a SNAKE? It can kill the farmer she said. Then I told them earth worm is different from a snake, it doesn't bite or kill, it helps the farmer to mix manure with the soil just the way we mix rice and stew before we eat. It also helps the free circulation of air in the soil as it goes in and comes out. Air in the soil and manure is useful for plants to grow, this makes earth worm a farmer's friend. They all understood, Delight was happy. Then she added; "anyone who kills an earth worm is a farmer's enemy".
They were happy, she was happy, and I was happy.
