The gospel of Mark relates how the disciples did not comprehend Jesus in front of the miracles the Lord did, the disciples did not have their hearts prepared to fully know Jesus, when the Lord preached the Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's perfections, in the world.
The disciples were not prepared to receive the holy spirit, and were fundamentally earthly men, which made their relationship with the master Jesus difficult, and Jesus knew it, that's why he was meek and patient.
The Holy Spirit and his grace are one of the great mysteries in the Gospels, and it is through this spirit, as the Lord Jesus taught, that men are reborn from above and achieve full resemblance to God; the Holy Spirit is the agent that transforms the natural love that is born from friendship (philia) into spiritual love (Agape) through Gnosis.
And there is a story that teaches us particularly about this problem that the disciples had, when Jesus walked on the waters of the Sea of Galilee to meet his disciples who were on a boat.
With these words, the Gospel of Mark tells us the astonishment of the disciples who, with an earthly heart, did not understand Lord Jesus:
"Later that night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, because they all saw him and were terrified.
Immediately he spoke to them and said, ´Take courage! It is I. Don´t be afraid. Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed, for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened" Mark 6:47-52.
