It was always foolish to think that a school with over 2,000 faculty could have a meaningful official position on political issues. "Harvard's" political stances never represented a considered - discussed, debated, and perhaps voted upon - position of its faculty, but only the beliefs of the handful of administrators selected to participate in writing the official statement. And regardless of what degrees they had, there was no guarantee they had any specialized expertise on the topic.

"Harvard says..." or "University X says..." is an entirely meaningless statement, not that any journalist was ever well-educated enough to understand that or capable of resisting the easy and superficially compelling claim.
