Six candidates have been nominated for the position of Director General of the World Health Organisation. The Director General is the WHO's chief technical and administrative officer, overseeing the organisation's international health work for the duration of a five year term. The successful candidate will replace incumbent Dr Margaret Chan in July 2017. The next Director General will face the difficult responsibility of repairing the WHO's global reputation following the criticism it received after 11,000 people died during the Ebola outbreak.
