December Homeschooling Miscellany

Refreshing to see that the silly season wasn't all that silly for you and your, MATE-me-halfway. The wife and I have been mulling over homeschooling more often recently, and I've used your case as one of my successful examples. The social aspect of it is what we're in contention about. Glad to see the kids getting a good dose of it on a regular basis.

So @gorc's the "Teenager" now huh? Pretty soon he'll be the little man of the house!

Yep he’s a teenager 😱

The only way to have trouble with socialisation is to minimise going out and talking to people and to basically do school at home. I still haven’t found another homeschooling group (I really should but things are getting seriously tight time wise 😖) but they do gymnastics and pixie does dance, and both the bigs are volunteering at the gym now (helping the coaches with classes and gorc also wants to help in the canteen if he’s old enough).

At the bare minimum they’re going to learn to socialise with whoever you normally socialise with which is usually a much broader cross section of the community than you get in school.

Then you might end up with a little socialite who wants to go to school purely to be surrounded by people all the time (issue I’m having with pixie at the moment, logistics of which are probably going to kill me).

I always have to warn people that it can and should be a lot of fun BUT it is also hard work and you are going to have moments of “am I doing the right thing” and wanting to put them in school purely to make them go away 😅 and that no decision has to be forever.
