Unsung Heroes: House of Joy

Recently we have been contacted by a multiple centre Non-profit outreach whether there were any way we could support them during this festive and school opening season.

House of Joy has 6 different centres to cater different needs found, and especially for every new term of the year, getting the right resources can be challenging for them.

Thanks to People Giving who recently donated a lot of new school shoes, we were able to set aside enough shoes for the children at House of Joy.

Most of the kids resided at House of Joy are either abandoned, abused, under privileged or physically / mentally challenged children. However, despite of their circumstances, they were given a chance to live beyond their problems and excel in their studies at school.

LK Fresh recently also decided to bless the under privileged families one more time right before Chinese New Year, and House of Joy kids were one of the grateful recipients.

A tough journey

This outreach has started their mission to reach out the sick, the broken and the needy since 1992; spear headed by Rev Tang Chee Sing and his wife Lee Ching Mun. Mostly Mandarin speaking individuals who needed much help found their shelter there.
Their outreach has multiplied recently to include 2 elderly homes and a drug rehabilitation center.

A huge dream

In spite of challenges ahead, House of Joy has a big dream – to be able to achieve self-sustainable one day, and creating opportunity for every resident in House of Joy skills to be independent in the future. One of them is farming projects, which we hope one day when @omnivori ‘s pilot project succeeds with a workable sustainable ecosystem, this would be something that they can collaborate in the future.

At this point of time they are already enabling their residents to be able bodied service providers from collecting recycling items to even do shelter work.

There is one thing we can learn from this, that we can never be able to be the bread-giver to everyone in need. Sooner or later our storage could run out of resources; but if we can temporarily easy their daily needs for a short while so that they can concentrate on fulfilling the bigger task to be independent and self-sustainable, every donated blessing to us is a tool to help people like House of Joy to achieve their dream a little closer.

That is why we can never be able to thank enough to all the donors who have contributed in whatever way to help us make our own dream possible.
