UPS doorbell Delivery

Can someone please tell why UPS feels the need to ring your doorbell and run off to their truck when they know full well they don't need your signature? This has to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen. To top that off I have a notice on the doorbell that says delivery rings are not necessary as I work third shift.
