Last summer I went on a little explore to a disused railway station that was local to me. South Wingfield railway station (UK) was built by the North Midland Railway in 1839 - 40 by Francis Thompson. It was closed in 1967 but the station and mail house are still there. The station was in private ownership. Since my visit I have heard that a Compulsory Purchase Order was served on the owner as they had failed to make vital repairs to the Grade 2 listed building. The council have now enlisted a company that will start on the much needed repairs to preserve the station.
The station is locked and partially boarded up so I could only look through the window. However, it was an extra bonus seeing several vintage cars in place. I'm not sure why they were there, just presumed they belonged to the previous owner.
This looks like an old Harbilt electric milk float that has been turned into a dentistry van.
A classic Jowett Bradford car made in Bradford, UK. It was a pity it had the cover on.
A little Enfield 8000 electric car.
The railway line runs behind the station and is still in use today.
I think this building to the side of the station was used to store parcels in.
It will be interesting to see what happens to the railway station. I hope it will be sensitively restored to its former glory. My favourite explore so far.
Thank you.
