Suppose a gang of political schemers got together and wrote a document they called a constitution, which created an organization called a government to exercise powers they designated and to collect tribute from those on whom this constitution was imposed, including many who wanted nothing to do with it or its creation, the so-called government.
Imagine that thereafter the government not only perpetrated the actions supposedly permitted by the constitution the schemers had written but gave themselves, with the blessing of judges they appointed, ample room to exercise many additional powers not even mentioned in the so-called constitution. And imagine that many people, calling themselves conservatives, treated the constitution as some sort of sacred text handed down from on high.
