Imagine a group of 18 five-year-olds in the US. There are better than even odds that one of them won't reach age 40. We have about 4x the death rate of peer countries.

This shows the component impacts on at birth life expectancy by gender. For men, cardio issues are about 1.4 years of the US deficit, drugs 0.7, homicide/suicide/guns 0.4, road deaths 0.3. That's 2.8 of the 3.6 year total in 2020.

Our social policies are about 2/3 social democrat and 1/3 Ayn Rand, and that Ayn Rand bit is growing. F you, not my problem...for everything.

Drugs are seen as a criminal problem. Mental health services aren't available to everyone. Guns everywhere, so angry young men can vent their rage with lethal results. Throw that on top of the hopelessness from every-increasing income and wealth gaps, and you've got a problem.
