The United States: The Modern Rome? - A quick article.

As I write this article in the wake of what appears to be becoming one of the greatest political scandals in the history of the United States, and the fall of the Dow Jones by one thousand points in a sudden jolt, images of the final days of Rome appear in my mind.

The system of government which the Founding Fathers conceived of during the early era of the republic couldn't be any further away from today's reality. Despite the efforts of President Trump, the Federal Government is still a government of pointless, wasteful bureaucracy. In December it was established that the Pentagon had lost twenty-one trillion dollars of taxpayers money (https://www.rt.com/usa/413411-trillions-dollars-missing-research/), an inconceivable amount of money which could have been put to better use elsewhere.

Years of quantitive easing have kept the US economy on life support, following its near-death blow in 2008 as a result of the appalling and quite-frankly stupid sub-prime mortgage crisis. Americans have only just experienced their first real wage increase in over 9 years because of economic stagnation. All across the land 'factories lay like tombstones', idle and deathly and political division is at possibly worse than pre-civil war levels.

The US economy is essentially in a fantasy land.

Much like the Roman Empire in the early 5th century, the vast global American empire is on the edge of collapse due to the policies of President Trump. Russia and China lay ready to move into the lost territories to expand their own influence. The spread of so-called 'fake news', like the spread of Christianity, undermines the reigning order of thought, bringing turmoil to the old and tattered laughable 'institution' of journalism.

The abuse of the FISA court by the Obama administration is a final death nail in the coffin of a 'political establishment' in its final throes. The barbarians are at the gates.

A period of great change is upon us. It is now the time for those people of great character and strength, to step forward and forge a new world in the shadow of the old.
