I called it! Will Smith's treatment is being called "racism."

I knew this would happen and thankfully it is only on a low-key level mostly by people on Twitter or minor publications but there are people out there that are trying to justify Will Smith's slap-heard-round-the-world and of course the treatment and criticism he received afterwards. It is racism, nothing more.

Brace yourself Rock!

I just did a simple search today using the phrase "Will Smith Oscar racism" and a whole slew of articles popped up. To be fair I think you could do a search for just about anything and thousands of results would come up but I read a few of them and it is just the same ol' "everything that happens to POC is racist."

Will Smith's banning from the Oscars for 10 years has brought about how the Academy is racist because they claim that Weinstein and Roman Polanski were not banned from the events. The people with these opinions are missing a very important part of all of this. While those two are terrible people and have been rightfully subjected to a huge amount of criticism, their actions didn't take place at the award ceremonies. Will Smith's slap was during a live production, in front of the entire world who bothered to watch (I didn't.)

Headlines like this are all over the place and it doesn't even make me mad. I expected this because this is how ridiculous the media and individuals in the United States are.

It's not just nutjobs on Twitter either, it is also massive publications like Forbes that made headlines like this

I think that anyone who tries to justify assault, especially assault where the perpetrator is in front of hundreds of people in person and millions of people worldwide, is just plain nonsense. The race-baiters will stop at nothing to try to stoke the racial-divide fire..... and the coals were just starting to get cool.

Thankfully, I live in a part of the world where racism barely exists. I'm sure there are some genuine racists hiding somewhere, but even though my community is very much a redneck part of the nation, racism is not tolerated here, nor do I know anyone that is genuinely racist. When I speak to my multi-cultural group of friends at the Elks Lodge about this after work - and I haven't done it very much - all the people involved just kind of laugh when I tell them that there are people out there that are attempting to justify Will Smith's actions and how some journalists try to make the claim that the only reason Smith is in trouble is because of "racism" or "white supremacy."

They should laugh because it is really stupid for anyone to try to turn this into something it is not. I did see this coming though, because we live in clown world now and if you give someone an opportunity to get a few minutes of fame because of something they wrote on the internet, they are going to take it.

Personally, I would imagine that Will Smith doesn't even care about his 10-year ban. He will continue to make films and millions upon millions of dollars. He will not be cancelled because of this and he shouldn't be. He made a terrible mistake for sure and he is aware of this. I think it was @escholo that said that he seriously needs to leave Jada and I think that is a wonderful idea.

racist, like nazi, has lost any significance. Hell, the word was even invoked when talking about criticism of BLM purchasing of a mansion

yep, those cards have been well and truly overplayed. Once you make everything racist, nothing is anymore and now when there are cases of genuine racism, people are just going to ignore it. The people involved have cried wolf thousands of times too many
