The US will soon request your social media accounts for visa approval, other countries may follow

The Trump administration is mulling bringing in a law that requires visitors and all visa applicants to the US to turn over their social media profile handles for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, previous emails et all along with a declaration that the US state department and other organizations can access upto 5 years of their web activity history.

Already, the immigration officers in many countries can demand an immigrant entering the US to hand over their phones or social media profiles for inspection if the officer has reasonable grounds. If the immigrant denies, the officer can then deport them without giving entry permission.

It may soon be that most countries would require such private data to be provided for gaining entry. The world is becoming a more protectionist and privacy less place in my opinion even as air connectivity grows so fast and becoming more affordable for millions more.
