The coming Utopia. How I believe we will save our species from calamity.

We stand on the brink of a truly glorious age. We now have every technological tool required to build the ultimate human Utopia. With 3d printing, and soon 3d printing robots, we will be able to build any structure or machine conceivable immediately and for free using open source designs. Including 3d printing new more advanced robots, improving over time with each iteration.

These new 3d printed robots will be much more advanced than today’s Roomba. Whereas the Roomba itself is a triumph in modern design, it is a pathetic and primitive device compared to what we will have in even a few years time. The Roombas of tomorrow will not just clean houses, but build them, build carbon based solar cells that are 90%+ efficient. Build carbon based ultracapacitors to store all that juice. Build tremendous light weight and incredibly strong living structures that could potentially float buoyantly on as little lift as a subtle temperature change would require with a slightly warmer or cooler interior. Build earth moving and plant nurturing robots that tend tremendous personally owned organic food forest ecosystems. Create cheap ubiquitous solar powered high speed aerial transport that will float effortlessly with your fresh fruit to any other corner of the planet you may happen to be floating over in your own custom luxury airship home.

Soon powerful new inexpensive ubiquitous cluster computing will allow the open source grand children of Watson to design future systems that will dwarf our current technology. For even greater power needs (though solar and cheap ultracapacitor storage will provide nearly infinite electricity for most conceivable uses) new and extremely inexpensive (and extremely SAFE) 3d printed nuclear Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors could be nearly universal.

We will have craft that can float to the edge of the atmosphere and beyond, that already contain living ecosystems that can feed and provide fresh air and water for the inhabitants. These same craft will maybe eventually have inertial drives based on rotating electro-magnetically powered liquid metal gyroscopes, that can approach the speed of light in almost any medium, including the vacuum of space.

We have all the technology to build this stuff RIGHT NOW. This isn’t theoretically impossible, and I think it may be theoretically inevitable. We just need to write some really, really good wikis, and improve them globally as a continuously updated crowd-sourced knowledge base for practical human and robotic implementation.
