Moderator application for Utopian.io

in utopian-io •  7 years ago  (edited)

I recently found out about Steemit through @juliank and was completely hooked from the moment I signed up. Before I joined he showed me some projects he thought were interesting and Utopian.io was one of them. When I read that you could get rewarded for contributing to open source projects I immediately thought it was an amazing idea and started reading more about it. After getting more involved in Utopian.io I saw that the moderators were struggling with the amount of contributions, so when they posted about needing more moderators to help them out I didn't think twice about applying!

About me

My name is Amos, I recently turned 24 and I'm half English and half Dutch, so I'm a native speaker in both languages! Currently I'm in my final year of obtaining a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. This means I have a lot of experience programming, writing reports, working on projects and working with others in a team. In everything I do there's a certain level of quality expected from me, so I think I would be great at judging the quality of contributions. One of my main reasons for wanting to become a moderator is that I can help make sure that the contributions submitted to Utopian.io are of the quality that Utopian.io expects and demands. Especially since I strongly feel that high quality contributions to open source projects are important and people deserve to be rewarded for it. Personally I think that Utopian.io is doing a huge service to the open source community and I can't wait to see how it grows. The quality of the contributions plays a big part in this growth, so I would like to help wherever I can.

My contributions

Personally I have contributed a few tutorials and the development of an open source project to Utopian.io:

  1. How to install steem-python, the official STEEM library for Python
  2. How to create a simple autovoter using steem-python
  3. Python wrapper for the Fantasy Premier League API
  4. How to create a simple Reddit bot using PRAW #1 - Streaming and replying
  5. How to manage your wallet using steem-python #1 - Claiming rewards automatically

I think these show that I take the quality of my contributions seriously, and would do the same for other people's contributions.

How can I help?

As mentioned above I think I am a good judge of quality. This doesn't necessarily have to be limited to my area of expertise, as I think it applies to me in general. I'm also capable of working quickly, while maintaining a certain quality, and I think this would be useful when reviewing contributions. Furthermore I'm very enthusiastic, always rise to a challenge and am not scared to share my ideas or opinions on how things can be improved. Finally, I'm always creating stuff that make my life easier, and could definitely do the same for Utopian.io.

Evaluation

Obviously I would prefer to help in categories related to my expertise, but I am very flexible, so could very easily help out anywhere! Because of this I will be evaluating four posts from the development, translation, video tutorial and tutorial categories respectively.
