Mokee is an intuitive aftermarket Android firmware. MoKee Open Source is based on the Google AOSP.

You can find their website at: http://www.mokeedev.com/en/
Github Page: https://github.com/MoKee

What is AOSP? The Android Open Source Project (AOSP) is an initiative created to guide development of the Android mobile platform. The Android platform consists of the operating system (OS), middleware and integral mobile applications. - Source

They have 4 main features showcased in using the basic Mokee ROM:

What can you do for MoKee Open Source?

MoKee Open Source is a big project. They require talents from all fields to help out:

For example:

  1. Translators for multiligual support
  2. UI designers
  3. Interaction designers to improve how users interact with their devices
  4. Programmers to combat bugs and implement new features
  5. ROM experts to extend support for more devices
  6. Many more...

In their website, going to the CONTRIBUTE tab will give you a drop-down menu with the following options:

  • Review
This lets you provide feedback about the software. Just head over to https://mokeedev.review to check it out (currently, the website is down upon checking).
  • Contributing Code
Even the most novice of developers can be involved in determining the trajectory of the project. You just have to submit your patch for code review and (hopefully) inclusion into the project. Check out: http://wiki.mokeedev.com/Contributing_code for more information about it.
  • Localization
You can contribute to localization by translating the terms and phrases Mokee uses in their software to your local language. You can go to http://translate.mokeedev.com/ that's based in Crowdin to help out.
  • Unofficial Device Support
You can submit application to include changes on the framework to include unsupported devices in future releases. Read more info about it here: http://www.mokeedev.com/en/developer-application/.
  • Device Tree Maintenance
This is asking for official support after you created your own Device Tree. Get more information here: http://www.mokeedev.com/en/device-maintainer/.

Filipino Mokee edit by @deveerei

Localization: Translating to Filipino

Localization is one of the contribution you can give to Mokee Open Source. I will give this a go and try to please the grumpy pig.

I started from 0% on the Filipino translation.

There's a lot to translate in this Open Source project so it'll mean a workout for the brains. Not to mention we're working on an Operating System for mobile here so we're bound to encounter a few technical vocabulary and jargon (when I say a few does that make you think I'm lying? Of course, it's actually a ton, their translation page is made up of 105 pages whereas Busy only has 4).

This is my contribution so far - 726 Words.
image.png
Which is about 378 Translations
image.png
Which translates to 4,658 characters with spaces.

Here's a Documentation List from Crowdin:

You can view a screenshot of the list of some of my recent translations.

Contributing via localization or translation is not really very easy especially when you're working on so many words that are very technical.

image.png

Crowdin does make the job a bit easier by providing you suggestions from other translation service. They are useful most of the time and all you have to do is select the proper one and click on Save to submit the translation. Of course, you're allowed to make edits before you decide to submit it.

image.png

Looking at the left panel, it will show you a list of all the words you have translated and words you haven't. It will have an indicator, either green for translated or red for things you haven't translated yet.

image.png

They also have this backup checker which makes sure your use of Uppercase and Symbols are used properly - it will prompt you to fix any mistakes you make in regards to those two mentioned. It's a good fail-safe function that saves you time in your translation submissions.

image.png

My personal target for my contribution to Mokee will be to translate at least 10,000 words into Filipino and have my name listed like the ones at the top.

This is becoming a hobby

Work was not that busy but I don't have access to all websites cause of privacy concerns, it's a good thing I have access to Crowdin and was able to add more potential projects for translating the English language to the Filipino language:

Till my next report! Cheers!

Hello @deveerei while in this category we prefer more direct contributions to official documentations I think in this case it is still acceptable. But I must ask for adding more information to this post about the project. I see the project README is not in english, therefore you may want to provide documentation in english? I need more details in this post before being able to accept it. Please go here, find the 3 dots on the right, click Edit post and let me know once done. Thanks https://utopian.io/utopian-io/@deveerei/mokee-an-also-open-source-project

Hi, thanks for the update. Sorry, I was trying to do things on mobile that messed it up. I'll fix this post. Changed the category since this is actually translation work, I just thought I could do a separate post for the introduction. Although I'm fusing them into one single post now. However, post still is incomplete. I will have to make final edits on the laptop.

I've edited it @elear. I fused the Intro and the Translation contribution and just set it as a contribution under Translation (the first part is just to let others know what Mokee is). I've also added some more information in it. Most importantly I'm using the right Github Page now.

@deveerei approved :)

Thanks!

I checked out the links - I think there are thousands of words to translate there.

Haha. There are. It's a lot really!

I think that's a cool looking pig. You should edit him into different personas. :D

Thank you! Maybe when I have more time. We can make out a Justice League or Avenger Mokee pigs. :D

Good job again Devdev! ;D

Thank you!
