What is Citra Emulator?
Citra is an open-source Nintendo 3DS emulator which is written in C++. This is build actively maintained for Windows, Linux, and macOS. This emulator subset of 3DS hardware which is generally useful for running and also useful for debugging homebrew applications. Good thing about Citra is it can run almost all homebrew games and some sort of commercial games.
Note: This software is not affiliated with the Nintendo in any way.
This game was created year 2014 during the month of April and one of the its first commercial Nintendo 3DS game to run is The legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Aside from that this application can also run one of my favorite games Pokemon and whats good about it is it can also support games like Pokemon Sun and Moon such a huge milestone in the world of emulator development.
Quick Notes: So to start, We must take into considerations that before installing any application/software we must try to check if our system is compatible installing a certain application.
Requirements:
- Currently Citra does not support Android or iOS, but only playable on desktop x64
- Stable Internet (Of course!)
- Web Browser
- Computer should be 64-bit OS Windows 7 and up and can also support Linux and macOS
- Graphics chip should be at least OpenGL 3.3 and up
Steps:
- Go to this link just click the highlighted text Citra--
If you wish to download the software for Mac x64 or Linux x64, just click other platforms,
Good thing it can actually detect what system you are using, If you are using Windows like mine, this is what will probably appear on your screen.
But, I strongly suggest to you guys to manually download a Nightly Build version because these are the safest and also the official version of the software. And click the logo of your OS in my case I am using Windows 10 so I should click the Windows logo.
Once you click the logo, this is what should appear on your screen.
- After you are done downloading, Locate that file in your PC and once you locate it open the file
The next thing you will do is to extract these files into a single folder, in my case I will make a new folder ang name it as "Citra"
Extract these files to your new created folder mine is "Citra"
Once you are done extracting go to that folder and click "citra-qt.exe" to run the actual sotfware.
- Once you click the exe file you are now ready to play the emulator.
If this appears on your screen you have successfully installed the software and you are now ready to play the game!
Now that you are done installing this application you may start playing games in your PC but remember since this is a 3DS emulator, You will be needing 3DS ROMS to run a certain game.
That's all for my tutorial enjoy steeming everyone!
