[SockoBot Report #2] The Messenger bot has been accepted by Facebook and is now Live on messenger!

SockoBot is trying to be the only tool you'll ever need on your Discord Server or Facebook Page when it comes to steem, while also being easily expandable to anyone that knows a bit of Python.

Introduction

Welcome! Some of you might already know what SockoBot is about, while others will see this and wonder what the project is all about. Don't worry, as I'm here to answer your questions.

For the past 2 months I've been actively working on porting and supporting my already existing Discord bot for steem usage - SockoBot. As of today, all the necessary work has been done and I'm proud to announce that the bot is not only ready to be launched, but was also accepted by the Facebook team and is now live, running on my server, ready to be used by anyone for free!

In order to use SockoBot, I advise you read the README file, or if you are a developer, just check out the code in the repository!

Why Messenger?

When developing the main bot I was thinking a lot how to make the bot more useful, but it just turns out that most big updates I have planned for the future work best when the bot is messaging the user directly - something that Discord can do, but was not designed for. As such, the platform that is the most popular messaging tool available to us turns out to be Facebook's Messenger.

A steem bot personalized for YOU

What SockoBot already does and will expand on in the future is the ability to personalize his outputs for the user messaging him. Right now it's done just by a single database that ties Messenger users to their steem nicknames (Without storing any personal data! The only thing stored is the "Messenger ID" which is different for every user you message from your account, so there's no way to find your account with it.) and allowing for shorter commands.

In the future, the plan is to introduce neural networks working in real time to find posts the user might find interesting and much, much more!

Quick access without going anywhere

Do you often use Facebook? Maybe you browse it while you're bored, you're part of a Facebook group that is interesting to you or you just use it to message your friends. If so, this bot was designed for you!

The biggest reason why Messenger was chosen over say, slack or RocketChat (which steemit seems to love) is because most of us already have a Facebook tab open on our PCs most of the time. Instead of googling coinmarketcap to see how much Steem is worth, going to your steemit wallet to see your SP ammount and looking for that delegation link to use with SteemConnect, you can just open your already existing tab and quickly message SockoBot for whatever you need.

Not to mention you can even use it with the Messenger app to always have a easy, low data consumption solution for checking all the steem related things you want.

What's next?

SockoBot is still in development, both on Discord and Messenger, and while the code overlaps in some areas they are constantly moving further away from each other. The Discord version is going to give you a lot of options as a server admin, but hardly any personalization features. The Facebook version is the opposite, and also different from the Discord one in a way that it's already being run for free on my personal server - no need to build anything.
