5 Best open source software I've started using in 2017

A common misconception, when it comes to software, is that open source software is only for developers and "techy" people. It's just totally absurd to think that! I love open source software and I don't see why other people cannot enjoy them, they're free, easy to use, commercially nonrestrictive and they usually have very unique and innovative plug-ins. This is the 5 best open source software, outside of steem, I've started using this year:

1. Brave web browser

Created by Brendan Eich, co-founder of the Mozilla Project and creator of JavaScript. This web browser's purpose is to help you browse the internet anonymously, by blocking ads and trackers. This browser has recently bumped itself up to my main browser with its launch of BAT(basic attention tokens), it's their dip into the pool that is blockchain technology.

2. LibreOffice

Why people spend so much money on Microsoft office when LibreOffice is there, free for anyone to use, is beyond me. It's fully compatible with Microsoft file formats so sharing is easy and it looks and feels just as professional as Microsoft office. There's also a massive amount of templates available for you to download.

3. Gimp

Gimp is one of those programs that makes you feel like you can do anything. It's an image manipulation program, a sort of free version of Adobe Photoshop, it really comes in handy for making some clickbait images for your steemit posts! Gimp can be overwhelming because it looks really complicated, but there are tutorials everywhere, answering any questions you have in detail.

4. Audacity

This is a program I started using when I was trying to make YouTube videos. I found it incredibly remarkable! With this program you don't need to buy an expensive microphone to start making YouTube videos, you can even just use your phone's mic and edit the audio with Audacity and boom! You sound amazing!

5. Shotcut

Another must have program for a YouTuber or video creator. There is no need to spend a crazy amount of money on video editing software, just download Shotcut. Just like Gimp, there's a lot of tutorials out there to teach you how to use it.

Let me know in the comments what open source software I'm missing out on!

Open source software is incredible. Lot's of people use VLC media player which is open source, Chrome browser is based on the open source Chromium browser + closed Google bits.

In the creative side there are things like the Godot game engine and Blender for high quality 3D animation/design.

Kdenlive is a much more feature complete video editor but not as easy to use as Shotcut, and there's Krita for digital painting which is really nice to work with.

And of course there is Linux.

Thanks for your upvote!
I love VLC media player, have been using it for years! Thanks for your suggestions I definitely will check out the software you mentioned.
