Detecting Internal Memory As Removable Storage.

Project Information

  • Title: Camera Boll Bug

Expected behavior

I expected the app to be able to diffrentiate between internal memory and s.d card when requesting and distributing permission.

Actual behavior

Camera roll continue to request for removable storage permission even when the device is running solely on internal memory, hence when permission it requested for internal memory, it is not granted.
The experience, however, is the different when an S.D card is present. The permission is granted and the app works as expected.

How to reproduce

  • Safely remove any removable storage on your device.. And run the device on internal memory alone.

  • Launch Camera roll and grant the necessary permissions to the app on start up

  • Carry out any operation which requires "write permission". I attempted deleting a file.

  • Locate a file and open it. Locate a 'BIN' icon at the bottom right corner of the file view and click on it.

  • You will be notified to grant write permission to the root of your removal storage (which ought to be internal storage)

But go ahead and grant the permission.

  • You will the notice the notification pop up again and again, even though you had followed the steps accordingly. Also, the operation is never processed.

  • Now go ahead and insert and s.dcard into your device and repeat the steps.

  • Browser/App version: V1.0.6

  • Operating system: Android v6.0 marshmallow

  • Device: Itel p12 (spread chipset)

You claim that you are asked every time to grant the permission to write on SD. The message clearly says what you should do. You must choose the root directory of the external storage so that it can be properly recognized.

My observation:

  • After ejecting the SD card, the storage is shown in the File Explorer but no files can be listed. The same for the app, no files from the SD card are shown.
  • When I wanted to do any action that requires writing permission on the external storage, it requires setting the root folder as you were prompted. You did not show if you did that or not.

I was not able to reproduce the issue you have or the steps are really unclear about what you are trying to do.

Did you look up this issue on github?? @espoem ?
Also, did you read where my steps say "grant the permission when prompted"?

Well, my stance does not change. In my opinion, they did not really confirm it. They put a label so that they could see if it is a problem. There is no comment indicating that you were able to describe the issue correctly. They only assumed the outcome as you described it and as I told you, when I ejected the card, the app would not show the files, therefore I believe that this is not a proper report.

However, if you disagree, you may submit a ticket and the Community Manager will see it.

Come on tech-guy!! You know have to reboot your phone after removing the memory card before carrying out the steps. (I hope by eject you dont mean unmount).
