Data on computers is stored as long sequences of characters – ultimately as binary 1s and 0s. The idea with compression is that we use an algorithm to change the way the information is represented so that fewer characters are needed to store exactly the same information.

Filipino:
Ang data sa mga computer ay naiimbak bilang mahabang pagkakasunud-sunod ng mga karakter - sa huli bilang binary 1s at 0s. Ang ideya ng compression ay kung ano ang ginamit na algorithm para baguhin ang paraan na ang impormasyon ay ini-representa upang mas kaunting mga karakter ang kailangang para iimbak ang eksaktong impormasyon.
