Components

The app is missing a few key features that will boost the utility and general appeal of the camera app. This includes options that aid the user to take better pictures.

Proposal

  • Add Face recognition, for focus and clarity.

  • Add Self Timer.

  • Add PIP mode.
Picture in Picture feature wouldn't be a bad option for further enjoyment of app as it is a new trend.

  • Add Option to set preview size.
Option to set preview size (standard or full screen).
Developer replied on GitHub that preview size depends on the picked resolution, but has not indicated how to select resolution.

  • Modify front camera size.
Modify to Full screen. The front camera currently cuts out part of the screen.

  • Add auto scene detection and option to set scene mode.
Auto scene detection (eg night, auto, sunset, party, landscape, theatre, beach, snow, fireworks, sports, candlelight, etc).

Mockups / Examples

Normal phone camera(Grey) vs Simple Camera (Orange)

As you can see the front camera of Simple Camera is cropped and does not adapt to the phone screen size.

Here you can see that Simple Camera lacks a diversity of modes for picture taking.

Normal Camera allows me to choose between 1-13 megapixels for resolution for resolution however there is no such option on Simple Camera. Instead there is a fixed output which is not even up to the full ability of the camera. Stopping at 9MP

Benefits

  • Face recognition will help the lens centre the pic on the people involved instead of snapping to one side it will also allow better tagging of other people in the pic.
  • Self timer will allow well synchronised picture taking. For bigger crowds involving the pic taker.
  • Full front screen allows better pic range and better selfies.
  • Auto scene detection/option to set scene mode helps for lens adjustment to allow better pics in less-than-ideal lighting environment.

thank you for contributing through utopian

just to let you know contributions on this category need to be original/unique to have great impact on the open source community .

why original/unique features : Because, before starts coding, the developer study and analyze similar/alternative apps, so it's pretty sure that the developer knows the basic (trivial) features.

also i see that you didn't follow the utopian template for this category , in the component area you should Describe the components/parts/sections of the software your suggestion is about.

you can find more information about the template here : https://github.com/utopian-io/editor-templates/blob/master/ideas

this contribution has been evaluated according to Utopian policies and guidelines, as well as a predefined set of questions pertaining to the category.

Hello @samhamou. Thank you for your time and evaluation.
If I may counter, the suggestions I made are NOT trivial but rather fundamental to the product of the developer.
We are talking about a camera app in this modern age of Selfies, Instagram and Steepshot.
Anyone developing a camera app will want to ADD more features. Not reduce.
Cameras are supposed to snap as MUCH as possible, as clearly as possible, as sharp as possible.
Cutting out part of the screen is not a trivial issue. If less was better, we wouldn't have Panorama mode.
Neither is not being able to increase resolution. Why would anyone want a grainy picture?
Face recognition is a must in pictures now. It focuses the lighting and auto edits to show the faces clearly in the picture for easy identification. Even Facebook uses it. Why would anyone want to build an app with inferior features?
If you would be so kind as to review my GitHub contributions to this very app you will see that the developer has taken his time to respond to my feature requests. If he doesn't think they are trivial why should you?

I have also edited the #component section. Seems what I was trying to say was lost in translation.

Thanks again for your feedback
