The Catholic Church have made the claim that 500,000 Kenyan women have been sterilised after receiving the tetanus vaccine in 2014 and 2015

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has claimed the tetanus vaccine was a state-sponsored tool for mass sterilisation.

"State Sponsored Sterilisation"

He supported the statements of Catholic bishops who strongly opposed the tetanus vaccine who claimed that one-third of the vials contained a hormone linked to birth control.

“Today, we can confirm to the country that the Catholic Church was right. Hundreds of thousands of our girls and women, aged between 14 and 49, from the fastest growing populations in the country will not have children, because of the state-sponsored sterilization that was sold to the country as tetanus vaccination" - Raila Odinga

The Catholic Church claims the vaccine was targeted at women of child-bearing age, containing ingredients that would prevent them from conceiving.

These statements coming from Raila and the church come from the conclusion of experts who have confirmed the tetanus vaccines administered to women has triggered infertility in them.

“The Church’s position was informed by what had happened in Mexico, Nicaragua and Philippines, where the various governments together with WHO/UNICEF had conducted similar campaigns using tetanus toxoid impregnated with beta human chorionic gonadotropin (BhCG) that causes permanent infertility among girls and women,” - Odinga

Odinga further states that the analysis came from the following highly-regarded institutions: Lancet Kenya, the University of Nairobi, Nairobi Hospital Laboratories and agriQ Quest Ltd.

He further states:

“These results all indicate that the Tetanus Toxoid Vaccine had high contents of beta human chorionic gonadotropin hormone (BhCG) that causes sterility in women.”

UNICEF and the World Health Organisation both dismiss Odinga and the Catholic Church's claims stating that the vaccines are safe and the church lacked any evidence to back up their claims.

There is no way that BhCG should be in the tetnus vaccine as a impurity. Further studies shouldn't have to be done to prove that it is a contaminate in a vaccine.

Larger studies should be done to confirm if people have had a impairment of fertility. Then criminal charges should be brought against the manufacturer and distributor of those vaccines.
