On that day, myself, my parents, my friends Bryan Docherty, Gavin McLafferty, Liam Davidson, Mark MacGillivray, Daniel McGinley and Craig and their parents as well as our teachers including John Morrison (the head of the base), Lorraine Markwick, Jennifer Evans and Mr McKenzie were shown round the newly completed building of the Vale Of Leven Academy in Alexandria. This was built after the old red buildings became too much to handle; in 2002, one of the main buildings, located closer to the main road, was destroyed in a fire, resulting in Porte cabins having to be built in their place. One of the Porte cabins built for the base ended up becoming so poorly that it was found to have asbestos in the roof. The school officially opened in the same month of that year.
