The problem is that the claim that vasectomies are reversible is at best partly true.
I've considered getting one. I talked to my doctor about it.
One wrinkle in this is that getting the vasectomy would cost me somewhere around $100. Getting it reversed could be the down payment on a house.
Also, the reality of reversing a vasectomy is the same as a lot of activists claim about puberty blockers and hormones -- that it's just a pause button. That might be true after a few months; but, the further removed you get, the less reversible it is.
So, if we start giving young men vasectomies at the age of eighteen (which is wrong in its own way) yeah, you might be able to restore potency if you get it reversed at twenty. If you meet the woman of your dreams, and you two want to have kids, and you're thirty, got snipped at eighteen, the odds are slim to none that the man will be able to produce a child.
Why discussions about ethics are welcome. Just don't lie about the medical reality.
