Decentralize the Animal Rights Movement

Every passionate and knowledgeable vegan animal rights activist intuitively understands that the current global nonvegan consumption paradigm is unsustainable on medium and longterm timeframes. As it currently stands, animal agriculture is largely responsible for all major impending environmental catastrophes, from climate change and Amazon rainforest destruction to coral reef bleaching and ocean dead zones. By all serious estimates, animal agriculture contributes more greenhouse gas emissions than all transportation combined, and some data even suggests that animal agriculture is responsible for 51% of all global greenhouse gas emissions.

This is neither an accident of our particular circumstances on Earth, nor a tragic irony given our perceived omnivorous dietary requirements. Actually, this aspect of our reality is what will lead us to liberation. We are not supposed to eat animal products, and neither this planet nor any that follows Newton's laws of energy conservation could sustain a rapidly expanding human or humanoid population that had an industry such as animal industry. By examining the shape of our teeth, the muscles of our jaw, the behavior of our closest animal cousins, the length of our intestines compared to our body, and the vast amount of population data that shows a clear correlation between every major chronic disease and our consumption of animal products, it is quite clear that neither our bodies, nor our home on this planet are well-equipped to long perpetuate the continued self-poisoning and wastefulness that is necessary to breeding animals, housing them, and feeding them for the sole purpose killing them for our food. More specifically, our trophic level pyramid is upside down, with way too much biomass on the at the top in ourselves and in our livestock, and just like a physical pyramid, it can only balance on its tip for so long before falling over with devastating results.

In response to the widespread access to nutritional and environmental data as well as videos and information about what happens to the animals, veganism and the animal rights movement have become rapidly expanding social justice and consciousness movements. As people become aware of the realities of all animal farming, from fishing, to CAFOs, to small mom-and-pop "free range" dairy farms, to slaughterhouses, we become woke to how deeply evil it is to treat sentient, feeling, conscious, emotionally and psychologically complex beings like objects or property, especially the clearer it becomes that it is totally unnecessary. By greater and greater numbers, we are snapping out of our lifelong comas and changing the way we interact with the world around us by refusing to financially participate in the oppresion of animals, and by urging others to do the same through our activism.

The rise of veganism shares much in common with the rise of cryptocurrencies. Both are decentralized and grass roots solutions to existing wasteful and oppressive systems that funnel money and power to a select few at the expense of the masses. Both movements intuitively understand the power of voting with one's dollars. Both movements seek to liberate the masses from false notions of what is necessary for happiness and success. Both movements utilize online activism to force people to look at the truth. And both movements face great resistance from institutions and even from our peers who fear the paradigm shift that our information will usher.

The animal rights movement must embrace cryptocurrencies, and vice versa, if either hopes to survive into the next decades and centuries. One cannot preach sustainability in the growth and consumption of energy in our information technology without understanding how the human component must consume sustainably as well.

This is my first post on Steemit, but going forward this is where I intend to focus my writings and posts. Cheers to the future, and if you consume animals, please research animal agriculture, watch industry footage, and start taking the steps to go vegan. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.
