If you read my last post, you know I am up to my eyeballs in beautiful apples! I figured I would share my easy applesauce that I made in the slow cooker yesterday in case anyone else is in the same situation right now. :)
We picked a variety of types of apples at the orchard, so I used a few of each in my applesauce. Being so fresh and delicious, no sugar was needed to make this taste amazing!
I used a 3-quart slow-cooker, but you could definitely use a bigger one and use more apples to fill it up and make a bigger batch. I use applesauce in a lot of my baking, so I will be freezing some to use for some vegan goodies later on in the season. I love cinnamon, but you could also do this plain and add your spices later if you would like.
Simple Slow Cooker Applesauce
Makes 3-4 Cups
- 8-10 medium apples, peeled & cut into chunks
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
Place all of the ingredients in the slow cooker and mix the spices in with the apples. Cook on high for 2-2 1/2 hours or until your apples soften and start to fall apart. If you would like chunky applesauce, mash with a potato masher or if you prefer smoother, use an immersion blender to puree.
