Compost Corn Half the Size BUT Double The Fun?

Hey everyone, nature really never ceases to amaze me. This is planted from my mielies (corn) that I harvested just a mere month ago... I put them on top of the compost heap, tons of sun and nutrients!

What makes this all so different from the last batch? I have no idea but I have a few theories, but firstly how are they different?

They are literally half the height and double the thickness. That is generally an indicator of a good supply of sun and nutrients however last time I did this nothing changed other than ONE thing?

What was that thing? The Seasons! I planted the first batch in the beginning of Summer this at the end of Summer but how could this make such a marked difference? Really interesting is that they have just started throwing flowers so nice corn in a month odd I guess?
