After two days of meetings in Washington (USA), a majority of member countries of the Organization of American States (OAS), including Colombia, put forward a resolution that declared illegitimate the elections of May 20 in Venezuela.
From 34 foreign ministers and representatives of the countries of the region, the result of the proposal was 19 votes in favor, 4 against and 11 abstentions.
Achieving the resolution was a fact celebrated by the States that, some time ago, have been pressing the government of Nicolás Maduro, but what real effect will this situation have on Venezuela?
For Martha Ardila, a political scientist and PhD in Political Science and International Relations, the decision of the OAS will not have any impact on Venezuelan territory.
"Resolutions mean political will, but they do not have a mandatory nature, they are gaseous decisions," said the expert.
Ardila stressed that, for her, the resolution is something more symbolic, without any real effect, among other things because "the Maduro government does not believe in the OAS" and that "a decision on Venezuela has weight must have the endorsement of Cuba "
Ronal Rodríguez, investigating the Observatory on Venezuela, of the Universidad del Rosario, said that the determination made by the organization is good, because Maduro begins to lose weight abroad and "it is good to start sanctioning", but "in effective terms many roads to go ".
"Failure to recognize the elections does not end up solving the real problems, which are the economic, humanitarian and health crises, among others, that Venezuela has," he said.
