One of the most interesting points in the VC field is how vulnerable the people in it are: for all their power and influence, they have to play their cards extremely close to their chest and be careful about whom they support and whom they antagonize. This book expands on that facet of the business, but also other elementary aspects of the field.
It's important to be passionate about whatever is being worked on: the book puts forward some of the best questions and notes on interviewing as a prospective VC manager, as opposed to interviewing as a startup. Good schools and networks help, but nothing replaces an unadulterated interest in the field you're specialized in.
There are also some great pieces on accounting that never go into the esoteric: it's simple, concise and down-to-earth finance that any businessperson half-worth their salt shouldn't be caught dead not knowing. I think this is a good book, but not that influential in shaping one's thought - it just contains some interesting information.
