I uploaded this on YT due to issues getting on Threespeak.
I've been wanting to get into freelance editing.. I added "video editor for hire" as my display name on Twitter to make it easier for clients. One guy reached out on behalf of his friend who needed someone to edit together some clips. Also being autistic and needing clear instructions/understanding, I asked the person to put together a small script of what they wanted to be done to the video ( eg when X jumps add a zoom when Y dunks the ball make the picture shake)
I made some samples and sent them to the guy for their friend. They messaged me back after reviewing the clips and unanimously agreed they liked sample C but the friend was concerned about the transitions (there was no mention of transitions in the convo.) and the friend was concerned about paying for something that looks like "simple edits"
this is a common misconception when it comes to edits. yeah, it "looks" simple. if you actually open an editor to do those so-called "simple edits" you learn that you need to know what features will give you said result. So if you're doing color correction, you need to know much contrast, saturation, etc is needed. Editing the audio. When I edit my audio I use Audacity if I need to balance it out. Edits will look "simple"
when you actually look behind the scenes you realize it doesn't look as easy as you thought. I watched Youtubers and saw they had cool edits in their videos, I thought the same as this guy the edits were simple. When I actually started editing my videos for YT, I saw how hard it is.
That video I did calling out that sex creep, that video took hours to film and edit altogether. As an example.
From now on, when someone contacts me outside of my blog, i will link the my hire me page where I hotlinked samples and they can judge based on the samples
I thought them just saying they wanted edits was too vauge since there are various ways to do edits.
I have no clue what they meant by "simple edits" but I took it as they think editing is easy but it's not easy.
I took me since 2018 to master my editing program, Wondershare filmora, to familiarize myself with the features and what they do. To master different styles to accommodate the video I am planning etc.
I just felt the friend would not have had any concerns if they were more clear with what styles they wanted in the video.
