How to Get People to Like You

Show genuine interest in other people. The easiest way to get someone to like you is to like them. Show them that you like them by asking questions about what they show interest in. If they’re telling you a story ask questions about the details.

1. Smile! People don’t want to interact with angry people. Be bright, positive, and smile.

2. Always remember names. If you have to walk away from a conversation you had with someone you just met, asking them, “what was your name again?” It’s not going to help in getting that person to like you, because you didn’t have the discipline to listen to them when they introduced themselves to you. When you’re greeting someone, try this, the only thing you should be thinking about is their name.

3. Be a good listener. Just sit back and let the person speak. If they want to talk, they want to talk, so let them! The best way to get them to like you and continue liking you is by actually listening to them when they speak. A lot of people hear what someone says and then respond with their experience or opinion, when they should really be listening further.

4. Take other people’s perspectives into consideration. Everyone has different beliefs. When you understand and appreciate that they have a different perspective, why wouldn’t they like you?

5. Compliment people on the great things they do, their achievements, etc. Make them happier that it happened to them, make them feel like people actually care about what’s going on in their lives.
