      I used to watch documentaries where they would extract these tiny beads that were alien in origin. Perhaps these people are being marked... Marked for the New Kingdom

        It's probably not as exciting as we'd guess. Barcode, locator, something mundane that they'd have use for knowing. Then again, it could be for extraction purposes.
