Rocketman is that kind of biographical musical that seems custom-made. Without any intent to make his hero better understood and without any trace of originality, the screenwriter Lee Hall tries to tick all the important moments in Reginald Kenneth Dwight's life on his way to becoming that Elton John we know today.
Directed by Dexter Fletcher, the same man who also dealt with Bohemian Rhapsody - after giving up Bryan Singer for the scandal he was involved in, Rocketman includes all the biopic clichés and all the clichés specific to a musical.
There are, however, some elements that make this movie viewable and convince you not to leave the cinema before the end.
First, the interpretation of Matthew Illesley (who plays Elton John when he was a child) and Taron Egerton (Elton John - adult), and then the music. And there are really good choreographed moments .
I Want Love.
- for example, is enough to see the movie.
We have all the artist's hits in the movie:
- Saturday Night's Alright (Your Fighting)
- Your Song
- Crocodile Rock
- I'm Still Standing
- and obviously the song that gave the title - Rocket Man.
Maybe the songs are a little bit different than you knew, but it's sending out energy and excitement, and it's probably enough for an amusing evening at the cinema.
