23 April 2005 - The 19-second video was shot by Yakov Lapitsky at the San Diego Zoo, featuring Jawed Karim, a Youtube co-founder, in front of the elephants, professing his interest in their "really, really, really long trunks".

The site has grown a great deal since then: it has over a billion users — almost one-third of all people on the Internet — and every day people watch hundreds of millions of hours on YouTube and generate billions of views.
